This site has been made for pilots and non-pilot outdoor adventurers looking to enjoy the public use cabin system, which is a unique treasure in Alaska. If we do not use the cabins we will lose them!
This A frame cabin was once a Forest Service cabin that was converted to a Refuge Public Use cabin in the late 2000’s. It is situated on the lake shore within the dense spruce forest. The cabin is located on a large lake but the cabin itself sits in a protected area with a nice beach for tying up the airplane. Summer use is great for individuals and families wanting to enjoy the tranquility of Afognak Island while hiking, fishing, swimming and exploring. Spring and fall are popular for hunting. Frequent bear activity, use caution.
