This site has been made for pilots and non-pilot outdoor adventurers looking to enjoy the public use cabin system, which is a unique treasure in Alaska. If we do not use the cabins we will lose them!
This is a log cabin that has no trails leading to it so it is more secluded than other cabins in the system. The cabin features a large deck that provides great coverage.
Facilities:
Snag Lake Cabin is a 16′ x 18′ rustic log cabin located on the east shore of Snag Lake. Built in the summer of 2004, this cabin offers seclusion, wildlife viewing, hunting, and fair fishing for rainbow trout. Area wildlife includes moose, black and brown bears, and wolves. Hunting is allowed for these species in designated seasons. In the winter there is cross-county skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmachining. The cabin contains two bunk beds, a table with benches, countertop for food preparation, wood stove, splitting maul, crosscut saw, broom, shovel, water bucket, fire extinguisher, rowboat with oars and personal flotation devices, established campfire ring, picnic table, and an outhouse. Primary access to the cabin is by float and ski plane, and snowmachine. Contact Refuge Headquarters (907-262-7021) for snowmachine regulations.
